Osteopathy is a gentle, non-invasive, hands-on treatment that focuses on restoring health to your body by improving health across all the body systems.
A Manual Osteopathic practitioner follows the belief that the body can self-heal, therefore during the treatment they promote healthy joints and improve range of motion to help strengthen the body as a whole.
Osteopathy is a profession that makes extensive use of manual assessment and treatment. The three components that guide the practice are:

The body is a dynamic unit
The body is self-healing
Structure and function are interrelated.
Osteopathy views the body as one unit working together and takes all the moving parts into consideration during assessment and treatment. It understands the body is also capable of healing and self-regulating, given the right conditions due to the healing properties that are within the blood. The motion capacity of the body is directly related to one’s ability to self-heal and regulate. Manual Osteopathic Practitioners use manual therapy to restore proper body mechanics, nerve impulse and circulation by removing motion restriction where needed.
Treatment will always consider motion restriction and asymmetries in the body, with the goal of facilitating normal movement. This means that your visit to an Osteopathic manual therapist will include a dynamic assessment of the way your body moves, followed by a treatment plan designed specifically for you. Treatment will include joint mobilization and soft tissue treatment to remove any obstacles that interfere with the proper nutrition and drainage of your body’s tissue. It is through a deep understanding of anatomy and physiology, and with excellent palpation skills, that an osteopathic manual therapist is able to detect and treat these restrictions. It is a unique approach to manual therapy that aims to treat the cause of the symptom and not the symptom itself.
